How does Christmas time change?
Traditionally, the Christmas tree will not stand up for decoration until Christmas Eve (December 24). Then move away after 12 nights (January 6th). Both early and late this date are considered unlucky.
But the modern Christmas shopping season requires most shops to erect their Christmas trees at the end of October. The Christmas department of Selfridge’s in the United Kingdom has been open since early September, including the Christmas tree.
In most American families, it is customary to erect Christmas trees immediately after Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in November) until after the New Year. Some American families did not start erecting Christmas trees until the second week of December. The Christmas tree stands until January 6 (Epiphany).
In Germany, the Christmas tree is traditionally set on December 24th. However, some people set it up 1-2 weeks in advance.
In Australia, it is one week before the school summer vacation. The exception is South Australia, where most of the establishments are set up in early November (after the Adelaide Credit Union Christmas celebration).
In November 2019, Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka introduced winter Christmas tree decorations. The tree is decorated with 591,840 colored lights. Compared with 2018, it has increased by 10,000, setting the Guinness World Record for nine consecutive years.
